Wolf Creek National Park - Dare you go there?
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  kinwhat

Advantages: Keeps you on the edge of your seat, not a typical horror film
Disadvantages: Slow to start, pretty gory in places

...“One of the scariest films in years, Wolf Creek is an unforgettable, shocking and completely visceral experience from first time director Greg McLean” “Three backpackers head into the beautiful and isolated Australian Outback in a dilapidated car. After several days of driving, they finally arrive at their destination – Wolf Creek National Park, a mysterious area where a meteorite landed. After exploring the terrain, they discover that their watches don’t work and their car won’t start. As panic sets in and the trio prepare to spend the night in the middle of nowhere, they notice the headlights of a car emerging from the darkness. So begins the group’s encounter with one of the most terrifying madmen in history of film.” Based on chilling true events, Wolf Creek is guaranteed to have you... Read review

Better than average horror
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  RippedoffPete

Advantages: The story is believable. Acting is natural. Great photography
Disadvantages: Perhaps too much time spent on build-up Some horror clichés.but not overdone

...Wolf Creek is an Australian film that seems to split the horror fans down the middle, ie those who expect instant gore and action as with much Hollywood rubbish today. Then there are those who appreciate a bit of character development and build up of suspense. As a result many young Americans don't 'get' this film and hate it and find it boring. I know which camp I come from. Wolf Creek is a film of 2 halves. The first half focuses on 3 backpackers in their early 20s on a holiday trip across the desolate Australian Outback. It is done in documentary style with add-libbed dialogue, and has a natural, relaxed and happy feel to it. The location shots are beautifully photographed - one of the film's highlights. Although nothing much seems to happens for the first 30 minutes this is deceptive. You become acquainted and empathise... Read review

Despair Down Under
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  utero

Advantages: Bleak, unnerving horror
Disadvantages: Leaves you feeling depressed

...You see some films based on a buzz. Wolf Creek was one such film. I have to say I didn't know a lot about it but people seemed to be talking about it with conflicting opinion. The film's plot is incredibly sparse and simplistic. Two English girls meet up with a fellow Australian traveller. The trio buy a cheap car and embark on a road trip into the outback of Australia. Their destination is Wolf Creek, a spot in the middle of nowhere. Upon arrival, they park the car and make the trek to view the landmark. Upon return they find their car won't start, they can't contact anybody and their only hope is that someone comes along - which seems pretty unlikely. But that night a grizzled friendly aussie arrives in his tow truck and offers a helping hand. The three get a ride back to his place and that's when things turn sour. Fixing their car... Read review

Wolf Creek - best horror film in years
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  bigmike33

Advantages: A clever, entertaining and different horror film
Disadvantages: May be too scary for some

...Wolf Creek is a scary little film about three backpackers whose trip to a crater turns into a hellish nightmare, as they're taken hostage by a rather crazed individual. The plot may seem the same as a million other horror films but it's actually a rather refreshing horror film which doesn't follow the usual formula, and may put you off visiting Australia, where the film is set. Although the film is slow to get started once the three backpackers are taken hostage the movie really picks up some momentum. There is a lot of gore and blood during the final third of the film, including a rather disgusting sequence involving someone's fingers. I'll say no more than this, as I'm sure you get the gist of it. Shot on a budget of $1,000,000, peanuts compared to today's blockbusters, Wolf Creek is a solid horror film with some good performances... Read review

Dare watch it?
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  ice_pink

Advantages: Terrifying, good plot, based on true story
Disadvantages: May put you off Australia

...I watched this film when it first came out and it had quite a big effect on me!! THE PLOT Three young backpackers, Liz, Kirsty and Ben are travelling through Australia and stop at Wolf Creek, which is a site where a comet has landed. After spending the day at the creek, they return as it starts to get dark and find their car isn't working (neither are their watches). They struggle to get it started without luck, and then are offered help by a local, Mick, who offers to tow their car back to his and help fix it. They accept gratefully - after all, theres three of them young kids, and one old bloke - who has the upper hand? ...Liz wakes up in a shed, bound and gagged, a period of time later. She looks outside for her friends - they aren't there. After freeing herself using a piece of glass found on the floor, she hears screaming... Read review

Head On A Stick - #4 of 2005
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  LostWitness

Advantages: Fresh, innovative, low budget shocker
Disadvantages: ..that shocks

...Two English backpackers, Liz and Kristy, are holidaying in Australia where they hook up with a local guy called Ben. Invited to a big party, they decide to buy an old car and drive across country, stopping off to do some sightseeing on the way. The sight they intend to see is Wolf Creek, the site of one of the world's largest meteorite craters, renowned for its remote beauty. The car is bought, the bags are packed and the three youths set off on their travels. When they eventually reach Wolf Creek, they are not disappointed. Its enormous majesty reigns over the surrounding landscape and in spite of the miserable weather they find themselves transfixed by the stunning views. Having returned to the car to set off again, however, things don't go so well. The car is completely dead and simply won't start at all. Stuck literally... Read review

Worth A Watch?
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  xerofailure

Advantages: Decent Horror Flick with Independent Charm
Disadvantages: 45 minutes to Arrive at the Horror

...General The advertising for Wolf Creek (The Poster, the weblinks and the trailer) didn't make me itch to see this film. To be honest the night I rented it I didn't fancy it at all but you do as your told when the other half gets a bee in her bonnet about a film! I picked up the DVD box and looked at the quotes. Scariest film of the year and really gory. So I was expecting quite an exceptional piece of work. Did it surpass my expectation? Sort of. The Plot There is a group of 3 young Australian adults (2 females and a male) who set out on a journey to Wolf Creek. The purpose of their journey is slightly sketchy but it is assumed that these young adults are keen adventurers and wish to explore and travel the creek. Then things begin to go wrong. Their car doesn't work and then the film begins it's horror. I won't spoil the rest... Read review

Deep Down Under
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  RazzaLazza

Advantages: An intensely enjoyable psychological horror film
Disadvantages: Can at times seem a little too brutally realistic

...'Wolf Creek' is a 2005 Horror Film set in the outback of Australia focussing on the journey of three travellers; two British women and one Australian man. The film was marketed as being 'based on true events' in the same sense as that of 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre', however it must be noted that whilst inspiration is drawn from reality, the film is for the most part a heavily fictional account. With a budget of 1.38 million Australian dollars, 'Wolf Creek' is a reasonably low budget film which is well worth watching in my opinion. Having wanted to see this film for some time, I finally got to see it a few weeks back when it was shown on Film 4 and am definitely glad that I took the time to give the film a viewing. - The Plot - The film begins with the two British tourists Liz and Kristy meeting an Australian man named Ben... Don't Stop At Wolf Creek
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  lilmsnaughty1979

Advantages: Quite Tense At The End
Disadvantages: Too Many Plot Holes, Very Slow To Get Going

...Synopsis = Two girls and a guy head out in the car they have just bought into the outback of Australia to find a place where a meteor has struck known as wolf creek. When they arrive they head out to check it out. When they arrive back at the car it fails to start. A nice and helpful bush man arrives seemingly randomly and toes them back to his place where he can fix the car for them. The nice man who helps them turns out to be a particularly sadistic serial killer who preys on the people who visit Wolf Creek, he presumably damages their cars while they are hiking then "rescues" them later. He then gets them to drink something (that I assume is laced with a tranquilizer of some kind). They wake up in all sorts of trouble at the hands of this psychopath. How will they escape, what follows is a cat and mouse game, the loser... Read review

Who's Afraid of the big bad wolf?
Review of Wolf Creek DVD by  Ailran

Advantages: Tense, psychological horor in the main
Disadvantages: Can get a bit gruesome for some maybe?

...Australia, land of dreams, beach parties, barbecues and back packers. A country where 30,000 people go missing every year (or so this film tells us), fortunately 90% of them turn up or are found within a month. That still leaves 3,000 people who vanish, never to be seen again, or possibly are found after one month? The Australian outback is an unforgiving place and it is possible some of these missing people just got lost there and were never found again, but then it is just as possible that what happened to them is just a little bit more down to who they met rather than where they were. Wolf Creek tells the story of what happened to some of those missing people and is based, take note of that word, on a true story. We open in Broome, a pleasant looking coastal town where two British girls, Chris & Lizzy, are nearing the end... Read review
