In a way we have read this tale many times before. Due to x a group of people are thrust together in a world that no longer seems to make sense, and chaos, hunger, violence and death ensues - x can be a shipwreck, a nuclear holocaust or an epidemic of blindness. The book though is working on more than one level. The physical blindness has disastrous effects and these are described graphically but the blindness also represents a spiritual, metaphysical blindness. As the original book was written in Portuguese this is only a translation so it is hard to judge the style. At times it seems a little wooden but I am sure that that was not so in the original. ...I have just had somebody from Hillarys come to measure up and give me a quote on wooden venetian blinds for two 4ft wide windows. The quote was £622.00!!! John Lewis supply the same sort of blinds for £55.00 or £75.00 each, depending on the wood. I can fit them myself and save £472.00. A friend had vertical blinds installed on all the front windows of her 1930's bay-windowed semi for half of the price I was quoted. Clearly Hillarys are trying to rip me off and I can only assume it is because others have actually considered such crazy pricing to be acceptable. Anyway, the quote was free and at least I had a laugh but if anybody knows of a reasonably priced company in the Surbiton area I would be glad of their details.... Read review

Advantages: Good on carpets and hard floors.
Disadvantages: Heavy to carry upstairs as a complete unit.

...The Bissell Lift Off is easy to use.Power switch & brush switch easily located at the base of the handle.The brush switch turns the rotating brush on/off.ON for normal carpet cleaning.OFF for bare floor cleaning or other delicate surfaces.There is also a power hight adjustment setting for bare floors,short & medium pile carpets & plush pile carpets.The adjustment knob is at the base of the cleaner.The tools are stored at the back of the cleaner (except for one attachment?).The tools can be used with the vacuum in the upright position or with the detachable cylinder. There are a few sites and places selling blinds but web-blinds offered me a free swatch service and delivery within 5 days. Choosing the blind was easy - the site is pretty straight forward to find your way around. It only took about 10 minutes! I was able to have the blinds delivered to work and the fitting instructions on the site were easy to follow. Ziyi plays a blind dancer/courtesan in 9th century mainland China, who is to be seduced by a member of the government's police - the film is cleverly built around the growing relationship between these two, but who is fooling who? It is a little hard to tell at times. Although at times the emotions do seem to be a little wooden, the characters grow on the viewer, by the end you will hopefully be as enthralled as I was. Takeshi Kaneshiro plays the undercover policement, who suspects the amazing blind dancer is perhaps an agent for the "house of flying daggers" a rebel anti-government group. He plays a comic role in this film, he adds the humour as well as the romantic lead. He is a big presence in the film being a celebrity (ex pop star/actor) in his homecountry Korea. ...through the isles of a supermarket, I came across a product called Febreze. I'd seen it advertised on T.V with it's claims to perform miracles on any kind of upholstery. I wondered whether it would turn my old polyester curtains into some nice vertical blinds. So I bought it. I thought I should buy the 500ml bottle if it were to perfom such tasks. It's £3.49 price tag was cheaper then buying new blinds after all. On returning home I reached for my Febreze, expecting amazing results. I frantically sprayed my settee with it hoping that it's claim to clean away odours was more than true. On waiting for the results I got a little carried away and continued to soak the entire contents of my house, from wooden objects to plastic children's toys sat in the corner of my living room. ...a suprisingly small box containing 1 large wooden sub, 1 normal sized centre speaker which also holds the buttons and knobs, and 4 very small surround speakers, as well as speaker cables, a coax lead, and a remote control. Installation was complete inside 5 minutes which each speaker and the dvd player wired back to the sub, plug it into the mains, switch on the player, and fall over at the AMAZING sound quality given for such a cheap system !!!! This system is sooooo good I cant understand why anyone would want to spend more, apart from loosing the sub behind a table in my front room (1 quick super long digital audio cable manufacture!) you can hardly tell that its there at all until you watch a DVD. The bass is amazing (ive had to turn it down incase i ruin my good relations with the neighbours!), the centre is 2 notches up to give good vocal... Read review

...Blake's 7 first hit our screens some 20 years ago and the opening logo promised a lot. After all if they can produce such a smart emblem the programme had to be well made. Well the story lines were good but some of the acting was, to be kind, hardly worthy of an oscar. The BBC had excelled themselves in the making of this series but were unable to sustain the standard and the series quietly petered out. Maybe it was money or ratings but whatever it was the series ended without an end. Viewed twenty years later the sets do seem to be wooden and cheap but at the time the thrill of seeing a decent sci fi programme blinded us to the deficiencies. The story in essence was Blake, a wrongly convicted felon was being transported to a penal colony off world when the opportunity arose to escape with a handful of like minded villains... Read review

...I live in a small flat,floors are wooden,with only a small rug,so I was obviously looking for something not to big which cleans all surfaces and dosen't take up loads of space.I came across this little beauty.The GTECH SW O2 cordeless electronic sweeper. For a start it's British made,not much of that around these days,it comes in 4 parts,slots together easily,so even useless me had no bother assembling it,honest!!!
