Top of the Class
Review of Nissan X-Trail by
CBP30
Advantages: The ride, comfort, extras, performance and reliability
Disadvantages: ....hard plastic rear storage area
...After owning a new RAV4 (2001) there was always going to be comparisons made and the X-trail certainly comes up trumps.
Rather than give the X-trail a glowing report, I will list direct comparison of the negs and positives between the Rav and X-trail.
One of the most notable differences between the two is the spare wheel and boot opening. The Rav has a side opening with the spare wheel fitted to the door and this can be a problem with access when parked at the side of the road and a car has parked too close behind. This is also a problem if parked on a slope, the weight of the door can be immense if trying to open or close it.
Having taken both off road in the rain and mud of the Brecons, the additional weight of the X-trail and ability to switch between 2/4 wheel drive again gives this the edge.
Both cars drive superbly...

Critter Trail X
Review of CritterTrail X by
almarsden
Advantages: Cheap and expandable
Disadvantages: Flimsy and problematic door
...After Hammond (our Syrian Hamster) had been living in his savic cage for a little while it became apparent that he was getting very bored (despite the number of toys in there!) so we decided to purchase a couple of CritterTrail cages for him and interconnect them.
One of the cages that are connected is the CritterTrail X (other is the space station looking one) and they appear (for now) to have stopped Hammonds boredom and given him a new play area to explore.
The cage at first was difficult to assemble as the instructions were poor and it did feel rather flimsy but after it was all assembled it felt ok.
The water bottle that comes with the cage is very difficult to fill but does the job.
There appears to be a problem with the door, as Hammond managed to open it a few days ago, i'm not sure wether this is a design fault or just our...

X Trail
Review of Nissan X-Trail by
haze1smith
Advantages: Good driving position; ability to select driving mode
Disadvantages: none
...I visited the Nissan garage wishing to exchange my existing Almera for another - until I saw the X Trail on the forecourt. I must say before I continue with the review the X Trail I bought is an import to the UK and contains non-standard equipment.
The XTrail cost me £14,000 in July 2002 - the factor that the Almera I had intended to purchase was nearly the same cost I decided to go with the XTrail with its larger interior, superior driving position and of course multi-mode driving.
The XTrail is classed as a recreational 4x4 - in other words great for the townie who does not need full 4x4 capabilities 100% of the town but would like to have the option to switch to this when necessary. The X Trail does this at the flick of a button. It has three modes; in summary these are general road driving, automatic 4x4 (the 4x4 necessity kicks...

X-Trail - Good, but could have been so much better
Review of Nissan X-Trail by
hargrove
Advantages: Comfy, roomy, high off the road and plenty of umph
Disadvantages: Sad lack of facilities and information for the keen driver
...Ever since they hit the market, I aspired to change my Nissan Primera for an X-Trail. I was impressed with their looks and the constant accolades they received from "What Car?" and others. I was also very impressed with they way they seemed to take to the road with consummate ease, sail past in the outside lane on the motorway and to glide over the road bumps like an elegant ballroom dancer!
In October I had the opportunity to change my car and bought a second-hand (2004) 2.2 dci SVE diesel model.
In many ways the car lives up to my expectations- it's extremely comfortable, the driver's seat (electrically operated) has plenty of adjustment in height, rake and fore/aft movement, which means it's easy to find the right configuration for you. Visibilty is generally very good, enhanced by the height from the road. Yet the height...

So close but so far
Review of Nissan X-TRAIL 2.2 dCi Sport 5dr by
Dazzlin_uk
Advantages: Economical, large, very comfortable
Disadvantages: un-reliable, poor aftersales service
...I was looking for a tough but economical and enviromentaly freindly car when I brought my X Trail. My first impressions of this car was wow! It looks great from the outside and the interior is comfortable and hard wearing if a little basic. A power socket in the boot comes in handy as well as the drivers side dash top storage area (also with a power socket)
However, reliability problems dog this otherwise excelent car. The engine is torquey, the interior comfortable (if quirky) and the fuel econamy very reasonable (up to 50MPG on a good day).
However, turbocharger failures, oil leaks, Intercooler failures, high pressure fuel pump failures and fuel leaks have badly let this vehicle down. All followed up by poor Nissan customer service. Save yourself some trouble and buy the Kia, at least with that you get 7 year warranty. With a Nissan...

For those who never sleep;
pity them!
For they have no rest.
For those who never wake;
pity them!
For they know very little.
But for those who are neither nor,
pity them a thousand times more!
For theirs is a fate of eternal thought,
forever in faith,
forever in flaw.
